City recorded their fourth friendly victory in six outings as they finished strongly against Dr
Martens League newcomers Swindon Supermarine, scoring two goals in the closing ten minutes to
put a slightly flattering slant on the scoreline. As important as the result City was boss
Alan Pridham will have have viewed the return to form of striker Graham MacLean as even more vital
as the new season draws ever closer. Since his much heralded return from Clevedon at the start
of the summer the 19-year old has struggled to recapture his best form but his two strikes after
81 and 86 minutes showed why Pridham was so keen to get him back to Twerton Park. Up to the point
the game had been fairly evenly balanced, with City just about deserving their 2-1 lead. They
had taken the lead after 16 minutes, Mills heading home Allison's cross, before the home side
grabbed an equaliser just before the interval. With a series of heavy showers livening up the
excellent pitch the game was playing at quote a frantic pace with both sides trying to play a
passing game.
Midway through the second half City regained their lead when Crandon's low shot found the net
after the Marine keeper had blocked Milsom's initial effort. This appeared to be the deciding
goal until the arrival of MacLean with about 20 minutes remaining. His first goal came after an
error at the back allowed him a run on goal, and he made no mistake firing into the roof of the
net from 18 yards out. And five minutes later a Powell corner found his head and he
netted City's fourth goal.
